The white background with raised electric coil elements enable those with limited vision to continue to cook and be self sufficient. Smooth top and induction cook tops do not allow individuals with restricted vision to see the differences in the surfaces.

Pans are not easy to clean. The manual states "do not use aluminum foil to line surface unit drip bowls, except as suggested in the manual." Where is the suggested liner recommendation? Manual is basic and written for convenience of Whirlpool manual writers. And how do you clean the small square box under coil?
Finish is subject to damage from foods containing acid (tomato sauce.) Why would you put such a delicate surface on a utility product? God forbid I want to make something as exotic as spaghetti sauce!
Cookware must not extend more than 1/2 inch over burner or damage to finish may occur. Why would you put such a delicate surface on a utility product? God forbid I have a large pasta or stock pot!

This cooktop was ordered on 12/14/2018. Finally received it thru Lowe's on 1/16/2019. My husband installed it & I tried it out. Guess I was only cooking on medium heat for a while. Then I tried to boil water & never could get it to come to a full rolling boil. Went back to Lowe's & they gave us 4 new burners with the black center on them. (the ones that were on the cooktop had an oblong heat coil). They worked great & once again I could get my water to boil. Then I took out the drip pan to clean it & discovered a very bad heat discoloration. Lowe's personnel gave me Whirlpool's number & I called. I was told since this is cosmetic there was nothing they could do. We have had numerous Whirlpool products in our 52 yrs of marriage but I will definitely not purchase another. Workmanship & quality just not there.

Great little cooktop. Works as it should, was easy to install, heats up fast, overall very satisfied. Owner's manual recommended special heavy duty burner add on if used a lot for canning, which this will be. Bummer to find out that it has been discontinued and there is no upgraded replacement. That is why only 4 stars.

Bought this because my 24 year old too burned. It sparked big time from wear. No damage to anything. Great job whirlpool in the long lasting topHowever, it was not an exact match. I had to engineer a few things to make it work. I had to cut around the bottom of the stove part to make this one fit. I also had to go get a ddikl bit to make a hole for the oven exhaust.It worked and I am enjoying itThanks
